Global Perspective - Teaching people about the world in which they work

Making Connections:
A Geographic Perspective of Our Changing World

This seminar is different

Making Connections is not a course like those often found in corporate training bulletins, and picks up where traditional culture courses fall short.  Many organizations are finding that working internationally demands more than just an understanding of the cultures of countries with which one is working.  It demands an understanding of the setting in which the global economy takes place.  This understanding allows one to apply patterns of knowledge to other places, including those with which they will be connected in the future.  The ability to apply these patterns is extremely valuable in an age when low cost advantages, as well as markets, shift from one country to the next, forcing organizations to adjust to new locations and cultures.

In addition, operating a global workforce, or appealing to an international consumer base, is not as simple as memorizing cultural rules.   It often requires uncovering the complexities of diverse populations, where stereotypes oftentimes don't apply.  Whether one is learning to work across cultures or making strategic decisions about a location's advantages, acquiring the context needed to adapt to a rapidly changing world is essential to being competitive.

Making Connections provides a foundation in world geography, with an emphasis on the emerging nations that are causing the restructuring of business strategies.  A combined one-third of the world's population lives in India and China.  These two countries currently have the fastest growing and soon to be largest economies in the world.  Emerging nations like these have the population size, low cost labor, and growing middle classes that make working internationally not only cost effective, but also necessary to be successful in a truly global economy.

Just as important as the content of the course is the paradigm shift that comes from viewing the world from a new perspective.  In a world that demands adaptability, gaining a new viewpoint can add value to one’s organization.  Global Perspective provides a new lens in which to view our changing world and can help your organization develop the global mindset that has become a prerequisite for success in today's economy.

Customize Your Seminar

Making Connections can be customized into 2-hour, half-day or full-day sessions. Your organization’s area of focus and time constraints determines the course that best fits your needs.

The 2-hour sessions provide a summary of relevant topics as well as a broad overview of the world as it is today.

Making Connections:  An Introduction to Globalization and Our Changing World covers patterns of globalization that contributed to a more interconnected world and that continue to be repeated today.  In addition, patterns of world population, development and cultural geography are provided within a world geography overview.

Making Connections:  An Introduction to India and China applies patterns of globalization and world geography to India and China, which comprise almost 40% of the world’s population and whose rising consumer class and economic capabilities have grabbed the world’s attention.  Participants will gain a better understanding of the potential, and the pitfalls, of these two emerging nations.

The half-day and full day sessions provides detailed content and more interaction amongst participants. It includes an overview of world geography as well as historical and contemporary patterns of globalization. National and Global issues related to a rapidly changing world are addressed along with professional or global issues that are relevant to the participants.  This session is designed to promote dialogue and strategic thinking within and across departments.

Global Perspective can also work with you to develop a different seminar, with new content, which focuses on the areas of the world in which your organization is interested.
